Common Emergencies
Many common emergencies can be treated at our office. Some very common emergencies are:
- Metal and non-metal corneal foreign bodies
- Metal and non-metal conjunctival foreign bodies (under your lid)
- Chemical burns in and around the eye (splashed in eye)
- Corneal abrasions (scratched eye)
- Flash burn (welder's flash)
- Severe allergic reactions of eye or lid
- Traumatic uveitis (from a blow to the eye)
Severe Trauma To The Eye
For severe traumas to the eye, you may need immediate referral to the appropriate specialty surgeon. Some examples of severe trauma are:
- Intra ocular metal foreign body (from a high speed metal particle)
- Heavy blow to the eye which may cause a broken facial bone or orbital fracture leading to a blowout fracture and double vision (from the eyeball dropping in orbit)
- Retinal Detachment - flashing lights, floaters, and loss of vision in any quadrant
If any of the severe traumas listed above occur, we would evaluate you and immediately refer you to a specialist. The doctors at Wilson Eye Care Center live close to the office and will see you at anytime. We have direct lines to our ophthalmologist colleagues for extreme emergencies.
